Italy’s denial in sending back the two marines for facing trial for killing two Indian fishermen off Kerala, has raised India to set in motion by summoning its envoy and telling him that Rome must stand by its commitment to send the two duo within four weeks to stand trial here.
During the meeting, Italian Ambassador Daniel Mancini pledged to the Supreme Court that allowed the two marines to leave for their country to cast their votes in February 24-25 general elections. While Foreign Secretary told Mr. Mancini that the Italian government was obliged to ensure their return.
Further, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh addressed the representatives of parliamentarians from Kerala that Italy renounced on its promise to the Supreme Court of ensuring the return of the marines was unacceptable.
